So Put On Your Best Boys...and I'll Wear My Pearls...

When the song, "If I Die Young" by The Band Perry first came out on country radio, I would instantly flip the station.  "It's a pretty song, but how morbid," I would think.  And then they kept playing it.  And playing it.  And playing it.  And then pop radio started to pick it up like they have with Lady Antebellum's songs.  And then I found myself absorbing the lyrics, singing it and thinking, these are the lyrics I would have used had I wrote a song about the same subject - especially the bridge:

So put on your best boys
And I'll wear my pearls
What I never did is done

A penny for my thoughts
Oh no I'll sell 'em for a dollar
They're worth so much more
After I'm a goner

And maybe then you'll hear
The words that I've been singing
Funny when you're dead
How people start listening...

Yeah, I still find it a bit morbid, but soulful, honest and sweet at the same time.  So if you know me in my real life and hear me humming the melody or singing the lyrics, don't be alarmed.  It's just a catchy tune with lyrics that spoke to my heart, and if I'm really forthcoming, probably spoke from my own soul at one point in time.
