A Brief Return....To Express...This....

I will be changing platforms to something more versatile for my purposes, so I may or may not be posting all that frequently.  Yeah, I know.  How is that different from the status quo? While I'm sticking my tongue out at anybody who actually reads this thing...I'll continue.  During this time of transition I'm obviously going to have thoughts and opinions on stuff that I'll want to share, so I'll still post a bit here and there until I get everything set up over yonder...

I saw this as part of my regular blog reading, and it's what actually made me decide to keep expressing while I get all my logistical ducks in a row...

One Day...

I finished reading this book a couple of weeks ago, but it has stayed with me, and I have found myself thinking back to it and relating it to a couple of relationships I have had in my life.  Here's a little synopsis:

From the back cover of the book:

It's 1988 and Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley have only just met.  They both know that the next day, after college graduation, they must go their separate ways.  But after only one day together, they cannot stop thinking about one another.  As the years go by, Dex and Em begin to lead separate lives-lives very different from the people they once dreamed they'd become.  And yet, unable to let go of that special something that grabbed onto them that first night, an extraordinary relationship develops between the two.

Over twenty years, snapshots of that relationship are revealed on the same day-July15th-of each year.  Dex and Em face squabbles and fights, hopes and missed opportunities, laughter and tears.  And as the true meaning of this one crucial day is revealed, they must come to grips with the nature of love and life itself.

I'm not going to put on any airs about it.  While I totally recommend this book as a fabulous, clever and intelligent read, it took me a little while to actually get attached to it.  It's one of those reads (at least for me) where I didn't realize my emotional attachment to the characters and their relationship until I was a few chapters from the end and found myself heartbroken and teary-eyed. Although this doesn't make this post much of a book review by my unwillingness to discuss the contents other than what is already given away by the back cover, it's more impactful if you discover it on your own.  This book is definitely well worth the journey.

Dear God, In case You needed clarification:

Dear God,

I know there is a plan for the path I am to take in this life, but even so You know I have prayed for requited love.  You've given me the gift of truly knowing what loving someone unconditionally feels like, but that love requited seems to have escaped me, and I'm realizing that maybe I need to clarify my request.  This is the love I was referring to.  By the way, thank you for my life.

Rachel's Birthday Video from Kristian Anderson on Vimeo.

This video was created by Kristian Anderson, a 35 year-old husband who was diagnosed with bowel and liver cancer in 2009.  He wanted to give his wife something special for her birthday....

I have watched this video about 100 times at this point.

Do You Know What Love Means?

“I love you” means that I accept you for the person that you are and that I do not wish to change you into someone else. It means that I will love you and stand by you even through the worst of times. It means loving you even when you’re in a bad mood or too tired to do the things I want to do. It means loving you when you’re down, not just when you’re fun to be with. “I love you” means that I know your deepest secrets and do not judge you for them, asking in return that you do not judge me for mine. It means that I care enough to fight for what we have and that I love you enough not to let go. It means thinking of you, dreaming of you, wanting and needing you constantly and hoping you feel the same way for me.

What Disney Character Do You Look Like?

Today apparently is Disney avi day on Twitter...at least in my social circle on the medium.  So, I thought long and hard...okay, I really didn't have to think too long and definitely not that hard - just work with me here...on if I were to choose a Disney avi as my avatar for the day, what it would be.  Once it came to me, then I actually had to change the avi because there's a story...There's always a story....

The summer this movie came out, I was in college.  I was thinner and was more prone to having a darker tan than I am nowadays.  This particular summer I was even darker than usual because I had spent a great deal of time outdoors with my BFF at the pool, by the lake...just outdoors in general.  One afternoon after our classes and subsequent workouts, we headed over to the local frozen custard place for a little treat.  What? Is frozen custard not appropriate after busting ass on the treadmill for an hour? :)

Anywhoo, we were sitting at one of the tables outside when three generations parked themselves at the table next to us.  A grandma, mother and child about 4 years old or so happily nibbling at their frozen custards and discussing the movie they just saw together, Pocahontas.  I noticed that the little one kept glancing over at me every few seconds.  Then I heard a loud whisper as the little one leaned over towards her mother's ear, "Mommy, she looks like Pocahontas!"  The next thing I knew all three females turned in my direction.  My BFF, being the supportive friend that she is, just kept her head down and her giggling to herself as much as she could.

Her mother looked down at her daughter, smiled and said, "Well why don't you ask her to sing and see if it's really her."

I almost took out Mommy.

A Night With Rob Lewis....

A really talented artist on soooo many different levels...and all around phenomenal guy, Rob Lewis, is coming to San Francisco to perform his music, and I couldn't be more excited to see him!  Okay, I probably could, but a lady has to keep her composure. :)

Rob has a ton of musical credits to his name, but here are a few highlights from his MySpace page where you can also preview some of his music:

"Rob is best known for his musical direction. He has been musical director for pop superstars like Christina Aguilera, New Kids On The Block, The Pussycat Dolls, Leona Lewis, Toni Braxton, and Jessica Simpson, as well as R&B artists Brian McKnight, Eric Benet, Deborah Cox, and Fantasia, and iconic artists like Patti LaBelle, and Babyface."

"Since 2006, Lewis has produced, written songs, and arranged on several #1 albums including Christina Aguilera's Back to Basics, Diddy's Press Play, Fall Out Boy's Infinity on High, and Jamie Foxx's Unpredictable."

"As a writer Lewis has songs on three Billboard #1 albums: Christina Aguilera's Back to Basics (song: "Without You", co-written with Christina Aguilera and Kara Dioguardi), Diddy's Press Play (songs: "Claim My Place", "Crazy Thang", co-written with Sean "Diddy" Combs), and on Def Jam recording artist Chrisette Michelle's I Am (song: "Your Joy", produced and co-written by Babyface). Lewis has also written songs for India.Arie, Kelly Rowland, Deborah Cox, Patti LaBelle, Usher, Brian McKnight, and Jessica Simpson for special projects, movie scores, and tours."

"As a vocal coach and producer, Lewis was featured on MTV's Making the Band with Diddy and pop girl group Danity Kane. He is also responsible for putting the music production together for Toni Braxton's "Revealed" Flamingo Hotel show in Las Vegas."

"Lewis has his own production company, Blacktrak Entertainment, Inc, that is the umbrella for his live productions, film composers, and his publishing company, Blacktrak Publishing. Rob Lewis has also started a label, Ladybug&Darling Music, with Sasha Allen, an acclaimed vocalist and Broadway star of the musical "HAIR", working on her debut album due out Spring 2009."

Trust me when I say that's just the start of the musical work Rob has been involved with or created.  And if God hadn't provided him with enough musical talent from an arranging, composing, producing perspective, he/she decided to give him a gorgeous voice to top it off.  Yeah, I kinda dig him.  I have definitely worn out his Brokenhearted CD single in my car for sure.

If you're in the San Francisco, Toronto or Cleveland areas in the next couple of weeks, Rob will be giving special performances in these select cities.  More information can be found by clicking on the following links.  Space is limited, so get your tickets or RSVP in quick!
